SUCCESS STORIES

Ana is a bright, social nine-year old with Cerebral Palsy and a severe seizure disorder. Ana has tried many seizure medications and none have been successful in controlling her seizures. Consequently, she is on a very strict ‘seizure diet’ that requires that she eat foods high in fat. In the last year, Ana has lost weight, strength and independence in her activities of daily living. Ana used to be independent in feeding herself, now she is totally dependent for feeding. Then came the SteadySpoon.

When we decided to let Ana try the SteadySpoon, we were concerned that she may be too weak to handle the spoon, and because her food is so distasteful, (A meal consists of mayonnaise and peanut butter), she may not be motivated to feed herself. Our concerns were quickly proved incorrect. Even though Ana had her mayonnaise and peanut butter meal, she used the SteadySpoon enthusiastically! She had no difficulty handling the spoon and she completed her meal by herself. The entire staff was truly amazed. They normally had great difficulty getting Ana to finish 75% of her meals when she was fed, but she quickly completed the entire meal by herself with SteadySpoon. Ana was so pleased and proud of herself. It has now been over six months since she had even attempted feeding herself. For Ana, the SteadySpoon was not just a means of increased independence and self-esteem. She was encouraged to follow her diet, which resulted in her taking in more calories, leading to better health, increased strength and a more active life.

Recently, the makers of SteadySpoon were invited on the Johnny B. Showgram radio show which airs in Los Angeles and Chicago. A few of the listeners were given SteadySpoons to try and then were to report back to the station.

One enthusiastic listener, Tony Lio wrote back:

I wanted to write you regarding a product, from your show, that you let me test. I tested the non-spilling spoon. I tested the spoon on my four year old son and also on my cousin who has Multiple Sclerosis. I am pleased to tell you that the spoon really works. The spoon worked as advertised. My son thought that it was a cool toy and used it exclusively for his meals. His spilling was almost non-existent. My cousin found it a great help and also reduced her spilling.
